Hackney Council has announced that it will launch a consultation in the London Fields area in January 2016, rather than holding the consultation period alongside a three month trial period.
The type of consultation method is used by the Council is not important to us. We appreciate the Council has come under a lot of pressure to carry out a pre-trial consultation, even though a consultation alongside a trial is a valid and well-used option in traffic schemes. See the FAQs page for more information.
We remain supportive of the scheme and will continue to advocate for a scheme that will benefit the neighbourhood and the surrounding area. We hope that the outcome of the consultation will be a scheme that improves the environment for everyone, including cyclists and pedestrians, while reducing through motorised traffic and its associated noise, pollution and danger. We hope the additional time this consultation will take will allow the Council to engage with the wider community, refine their plans, and enable them to build a scheme that gains widespread support.
We can now focus on discussing the merits of the scheme, rather than the debate surrounding the the consultation method!
The Council have announced that there will be a meeting to discuss the scheme at Hackney Town Hall on Monday 14th December at 7pm.
We are sure that the meeting will be well attended. We encourage anyone who likes the sound of reduced traffic to attend the meeting. We hope to see you there!
This meeting will present an opportunity for councillors and senior officers from the Council’s Streetscene service to answer questions and concerns from the public.
We are a group of local residents who walk, drive and cycle. We support Hackney's traffic and pollution reduction plans. We firmly believe this scheme will help make London Fields a better place to live. We look forward to working with all of our neighbours and the council to make this scheme a success.
